56/365

The Pink Room is almost ready to unveil.  Violet's corner got some use today, but she keeps asking to go back downstairs.  Old habits die hard.  I'm sure she expects the room to descend into chaos at any moment.  She also insists on keeping the door shut.  I've conditioned her to see the room as a source of family shame.  It may take some time to reprogram her.

Distracting Myself

I am on nurse duty. The husband is sick. He is busy sweating all over the sheets I just washed through a fever.  I am on my best behavior and trying not to resent him, because after all it's not his fault he got sick.  I am just a terrible nurse.

I had no intention of moaning about my Florence Nightingale complex when I started this post. My whole point was to show you yesterday's  Project 365 photo.  I was trying to distract myself with cute and I failed.

Anywho.  Here is a little buddy from Violet's preschool co-op. His mama was on teaching duty, so I followed him around with my camera. It kept us both out of trouble.

*Perhaps the library could do a little dusting now and then. Just sayin'.

19/365

When sorting through the mismatched pile of magnetic poetry you find lurking on top of the refrigerator, you will suddenly remember that your husband gifted you with the Erotic collection. This will necessitate combing through each and every magnet before passing on the irresistibly tiny words to your 3 year old child.  After awhile all the words will begin to look / sound suspiciously lurid.

Does MONKEY really mean PENIS?

Why are there so many TICKLE pieces?

Does ROCKET really mean PENIS?

APPARATUS!!??

Does FRIEND really mean PENIS?

I eliminated all of the words that I might find myself unable to define without sweating. So, along with throb  and orgasm, I also tossed out God and worship.

*I know you can see the word breast there in the cast off pile. I am not afraid of the word breast, but I could not conceive of any story or poem that Violet might legitimately create that would include the word breast.

How to Lose an Argument and Still Win

During this entire conversation I am taking pictures of my husband who hates to be photographed.

Wife: Remember, that [wooden spatula] doesn't go in the dishwasher.

Husband: [Satisfied chuckle].

Wife: What? I'm sorry. It doesn't.

Husband: It doesn't go in there today.

Wife: No. It never goes in the dishwasher.

Husband: That's not what you said last time.

Wife: What last time?

Husband: I wrote it down. You said it was okay to put the wooden spatula in the dishwasher. It's in my notebook upstairs.

Wife: Really?

Husband: I just read it today.... get that camera out of my face.

Wife: Oh, but your right. I just want to take a picture of what you look like when your right.

Husband: Stop it.

Wife: I'M wrong. Oooh. Whatta think of that. I'm wrong and your right.

Husband: Quit it.

Wife: Don't you want to see what it looks like to be right?

Husband: NO!

All the Mediocrity That I Crave

Project 365 is going to help me achieve something with my blog that has been elusive up until now. Documenting the beautiful banality of everyday life. I want to have a snapshot of each and every day. I want to be able to revel in the mediocrity of my life. Tiny things slip  away from us and are forgotten. Violet will grow out of funny faces and pronunciations too quickly. I want to capture it. Stop time. Preserve the inconsequential nuances of our journey as a family.

It might get boring sometimes, so I will only post the really great photos here on my blog. Or, I'll post them when I am suffering from writer's block. Oh, and I'll probably post them on Wordless Wednesday...the point is if you don't see a photo here every day, don't think I've given up. I will post all the photographs on Flickr.  While you are there you can see what all the other participants are posting. It's a lovely window into the lives of our fellow humans.

We are all the same, our perspectives are just different.

Project 365

I'm in. It's got the word PROJECT right in the title. It's exactly what I need. Something to look forward to EVERY. DAY.

Day 1:

This is a post tantrum cuddle. She said, "I sorry Mommy."
I thought, I will NEVER make un-boxed macaroni and cheese again.
We hugged it out and I scrambled some eggs.
