Wardrobe Wednesday

I don't wear a lot of makeup.  My skin is sensitive and oily and after a couple of hours I look worse than I would have if I went naked faced.  I like mascara and lip gloss and I will powder my nose if I want to look real fancy.  Besides, I don't go anywhere, so why bother?

My dear friend M is an executive with a big company and wears makeup everyday.  This daily application of paint, has not gone unnoticed by her children.  On a recent outing together, the battle cry of K-girl and Z-man was MAKEUP (yes, the boy wants some too).  Mama was supposed to make a stop at Ulta and they were thrilled at the prospect of acquiring something new for themselves.  Violet began chiming in as well, because MAKEUP must be awesome if you are going to yell about it in all caps, right? Well, the day did not go quite according to plan and we had to improvise with a quick stop at Sally Beauty to appease the tiny, raging beauty queens. I stayed in the van with the kids, because the boy had passed out and needed to stay that way.  Oh, and Sally Beauty is but a tiny little shop and these girls would have ransacked that place in their bloodthirsty quest for MAKEUP.  When M got back with matching bargain bin eyeshadow palates for the girls, the colors immediately reminded me of a black-eye.  I told the girls we could give each other black eyes at our next playdate.

Violet still doesn't really know what MAKEUP is all about, and I'd like to keep it that way for awhile. I am also keeping her in the dark about chewing gum and sneakers that light up, so you know...

  1. Unfortunately, Valerie discovered make-up (and chewing gum, no light-up sneakers yet) pretty early in life and caught the bug, too. She loves it. I do not. Especially all over the rug in her room.

Love the black eye. Looks like me when I attempt to wear eye make-up.

  2. Yeah, ditto to what Rachel said. My girls love to raid my make-up bag and put on that all-day long wearing lipstick shellack. And when I say I long wearing, I mean all day and maybe even the next day after that, especially if they happen to get any of it in places other than their lips.

Cute black eye though! Looks like she took a blow to the chin too. Ouch!

  8. At my girl's 3rd birthday party her great grandmother gave her an entire make up kit, including sparkly lip gloss and oily eye liner. My response was to have my daughter do everyone's make up at the party, which she did with glee and effectively shut down any further thoughts by her relatives of supplying her with more of the stuff.

As far as my girl know, make up is for dress up, and only when she's with grandma :D

  9. My dear daughter (the sneak) found out what lipstick was when I had to doll her up for her dance recital. She later, of course, sneaked some on her face. She liked that better than the eyeshadow, mascara or blush.

My daughter has discovered MAKEUP, but is still quite happy with just some lip gloss... if any.

  11. ditto on the light up shoes. and so far, gum is for adults only. I wonder how long we can continue the adults only theme on many things. peanut m&ms - daddy beans. HD won't go anywhere near them. don't know how we did it, but makeup is sure to follow the same fate. though where she'll see it, I don't know. don't think I even own any.

killer black eye. maybe Violet will get into stage makeup. more fun.
