The Consumer Product Safety Commission has thought better of it's draconian testing regiment for all things child. They are granting a one year stay of enforcement on the CPSIA until they can sort out the mess. Here's a snippet of what they said in their press release, which you can read in full, here.
The stay of enforcement provides some temporary, limited relief to the crafters, children’s garment manufacturers and toy makers who had been subject to the testing and certification required under the CPSIA. These businesses will not need to issue certificates based on testing of their products until additional decisions are issued by the Commission. However, all businesses, including, but not limited to, handmade toy and apparel makers, crafters and home-based small businesses, must still be sure that their products conform to all safety standards and similar requirements, including the lead and phthalates provisions of the CPSIA.

because I know a lot of home-based crafters that use lead based paint and phthalates... I know it's just to cover their butt, but that just sounds ridiculous. I'm sure this topic will be revisited with passion in another year, but for now, Woo-Hoo!
