Bedtime
Daddy: Goodnight baby.
Violet: My belly doesn't feel good.
Daddy: It will feel better when you go to sleep.
Violet: I can't sleep.
Daddy: Close your eyes.
Violet: My belly doesn't feeeeeel good!
Daddy: Okay.
Daddy goes to the bathroom and returns with a cup full of water.
Daddy: Would you like some placebo medicine to make your belly feel better?
Violet: Yes, I would.
Daddy: Here you go.
Violet: It tastes like water.
Daddy: I know. That's placebo.
Violet: Thank you Daddy. I feel better.

How cute is that? And she took the bait! That placebo stuff works pretty well if you can pull it off. My kids have had similar suspect tummy issues from time to time. I should try this, although my kids are older and would probably just laugh at me if I tried to pass off water as a gas-x strip.

ReplyDeleteI have to admit I was thinking it was going to be a different outcome. I had visions of the tummy ache being real and Dad "wearing it". ;)

ReplyDeleteMy kids complain about tummyaches to try and get TUMS. Tums = yums.
I LOVE placebo medicine. It works wonders in our house too!
